On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, IVReD welcomed three representatives from Shionogi TechnoAdvance Research Co., Ltd.: Dr. Jun Yoshimoto, President; Dr. Kenichi Higashino, Director and Head of the Corporate Planning Division; and Ms. Rio Nakamura, Research Area Head for Pharmacological Evaluation.

Professor Hirofumi Sawa, Director of IVReD, provided an overview of the global challenges posed by infectious diseases and emphasized the critical role of vaccine research and development in pandemic preparedness. He also presented our research strategy for addressing zoonotic diseases with pandemic potential, highlighting its integrated approach to the rapid development of vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics during infectious disease emergencies. In addition, he introduced our international epidemiological surveillance network spanning Africa, Asia, and Latin America, which supports pathogen surveillance, risk assessment, and the early detection of emerging infectious diseases.

The visit featured active discussions that provided participants with a deeper understanding of the IVReD’s research activities, international partnerships, and efforts to foster the next generation of researchers. They also toured our laboratories and core research facilities, gaining a better understanding of our advanced research environment and infrastructure.

IVReD remains committed to strengthening collaborations with academic institutions, government agencies, and industry partners both in Japan and internationally. Through these partnerships, we aim to accelerate the development of vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics for emerging infectious diseases and contribute to strengthening global preparedness for future public health threats.
