The genetic sequencing of isolates at the BioFarma National Polio Laboratory indicates cVDPV2 with 36 nucleotide changes, genetically linked to a case in West Java province, that was reported to WHO in March 2023.

In recent months, there has been an increase in the detection of cases of Oropouche fever in certain areas of the Region of the Americas. In addition, there is a heightened prevalence of dengue circulation reported in several countries in the region. In response to this, the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) shares with Member States recommendations for the differential diagnosis of the Oropouche virus and recommends strengthening vector control and personal protection measures for the population most at risk.

Given the challenges related to the persistence of low coverage of the first and second doses of the vaccine against measles, rubella, and mumps (MMR1 and MMR2), the increase in measles cases globally, and the occurrence of imported cases in countries in the Region of the Americas, the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) urges Member States to continue with activities to increase and maintain adequate vaccination coverage against measles, rubella, and mumps and reiterates that vaccination, epidemiological surveillance, and preparation of rapid response to measles and rubella outbreaks constitute the three major strategies to annually monitor and reverify the interruption of endemic transmission of these viruses.

Yaoundé – Cameroon today launched the RTS,S malaria vaccine into its routine national immunization services, becoming the first country to do so outside the malaria vaccine pilot programme that was carried out in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi.
