On Thursday, May 14, 2026, Dr. Toru Kondo, Counselor at the Bureau of Health Security and Management, Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS), who is also concurrently affiliated with the Center for Research Planning and Coordination at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), visited IVReD.

The meeting was held online and attended by Professor Hirofumi Sawa, Director of IVReD, Deputy Director Yasuhiko Suzuki, Professor Junya Yamagishi of the International Institute for Zoonosis Control (IIZC), Hokkaido University, and Specially Appointed  Associate Professor Naganori Nao of the One Health Research Center (OHRC).

JIHS introduced projects such as Japan Initiative for Global Research Network on Infectious Diseases Plus ( J-GRID+) and The Infectious Disease Clinical Research Network with National Repository(iCROWN), and they exchanged views on preparedness for infectious disease crises and potential research collaborations, engaging in productive discussions focused on enhancing future cooperative efforts.

IVReD will continue to promote research on infectious diseases and vaccine development through collaboration with related organizations in Japan and around the world.
