Professor Hirofumi Sawa, Director of the IVReD, and Visiting Professor Akihiko Sato, Clinical Development Division, were involved in the development of the first domestically produced new coronavirus medicine, Ensitrelvir Fumaric Acid (Xocova®, European brand name : Zokovea®). The EU subsidiary of Shionogi & Co., Ltd., has now received approval from the European Commission (EC) for Xocova® as an indication for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) against COVID-19.
