Epidemiological Update Mpox in the Americas Region – 17 August 2024|17 Aug 2024 |Pan American Health Organization
On 14 August 2024, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) determined that the resurgence of Mpox in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and a growing number of countries in Africa constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). Temporary recommendations are being developed with input from the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee and will be available in the coming days.

Oropouche virus disease|23 August 2024|Region of the Americas
Between 1 January and 20 July 2024, there were 8078 confirmed Oropouche cases reported in the Region of the Americas, including two deaths. The cases are reported among five countries in the region: the Plurinational State of Bolivia (356 cases), Brazil1 (7284 cases, including two deaths), Peru (290 cases), Colombia (74 cases), and Cuba (74 cases).
Acute encephalitis syndrome due to Chandipura virus|23 August 2024|India
Of the total 245 AES cases reported, CHPV has been confirmed in 64 cases through immunoglobulin M enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (IgM ELISA) or reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Of the 64 confirmed cases, 61 cases have been reported from Gujarat State and three from Rajasthan State.
