IVReD participated in BioJapan 2026, held at PACIFICO Yokohama from October 7 to 9, 2026. This marked the third consecutive year participating at the event.

BioJapan is one of Asia’s largest life science events, bringing together companies, startups, universities, and research institutes from Japan and around the world. The event was held alongside Regenerative Medicine JAPAN and healthTECH JAPAN, attracting a total of 22,835 visitors over three days.

IVReD joined the event to share its research activities and achievements as part of two projects supported by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) and the Strategic Center of Biomedical Advanced Vaccine Research and Development for Preparedness and Response (SCARDA): the World-class Research and Development Centers for Vaccines program and the Research and Development Platform for Medical Countermeasures against Infectious Disease Emergencies program, which was launched in July 2026.

Five universities participated in these programs—Hokkaido University, the University of Tokyo, Chiba University, Osaka University, and Nagasaki University—and shared a booth to present their latest research achievements and future plans.

IVReD displayed posters and information materials and showed a video introducing the history of the institute and highlights of its research activities. Visitors learned about IVReD’s efforts to develop vaccines, treatments, and diagnostic tools to prepare for future infectious disease emergencies.

In addition, Professor Keiichi Yamamoto, Project Manager at IVReD, held individual meetings with representatives from companies and research institutes. These meetings provided valuable opportunities to discuss potential research collaborations and ways to turn research findings into practical medical products.

During the event of the day3, Yukari Itakura, a specially appointed assistant professor in the Division of Biological Response Analysis, delivered an oral presentation on the development of an oral rabies vaccine. This research aims to realize a practical, orally administered rabies vaccine designed with a focus on safety. Specifically, by avoiding the use of infectious viruses. Through this presentation, we shared the findings of IVReD’s innovative vaccine development research.

Throughout the three-day event, our exhibition booth welcomed many visitors, leading to lively discussions and valuable exchanges of ideas about our research activities.

We plan to participate in BioJapan again next year. We will continue to strengthen collaborations with research institutions and industry partners in Japan and around the world. Through these partnerships, we aim to advance the research, development, and practical application of vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics to address infectious disease threats and contribute to improving global public health.
