The 140th Science Cafe Sapporo “Vaccines? What are they, and are they yummy? – Saving the world from rabies with oral vaccines! -” was held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Hokkaido University School of Medicine Centennial Hall 2F Multi-purpose Hall. This is a joint event with the Hokkaido University Institute for Vaccine Research and Development (IVReD) and Hokkaido University CoSTEP.
Unfortunately, it rained on the day of the event, but 33 people attended and the venue was full. Dr.Yukari Itakura talked about the necessity of rabies prevention and the difficulties of disease control in developing countries, which are the main countries where rabies occurs.

According to the survey results, about 60% of participants were first-timers, but about 85% said they were satisfied. We were able to deepen our understanding of rabies, which is not unrelated to Japan.
