【Event Report : lecture】Public Lecture on March 2, 2024, at Hokkaido University Conference Hall

IVReD held the first public lecture, “Protecting the future of humanity with vaccines” at the Hokkaido University Conference Hall on Saturday, March 2.

First, the Director of IVReD Prof. Sawa gave a lecture on “Activities of the Vaccine Research and Development Center,” including an overview of zoonosis, countermeasures against infectious diseases, the mission of the Vaccine Research and Development Center, cooperation and collaboration with related institutions and companies inside and outside the university including overseas universities, and research plans for rapid development and production of vaccines.

Next, Prof. Hiroshi Kida, (Head of the Hokkaido University International Institute for Zoonosis Control, Specially Appointed Professor at IVReD ), gave a presentation on the plans to develop vaccines and therapeutics against pandemic and seasonal influenza and coronavirus infections.

Lastly, Specially Appointed Professor Kazuhiro Matsuo (Vaccine Research and Development Center) gave a lecture on “Research and Development of Antimycobacterial Infection and New TB Vaccine,” explaining that TB is not a disease of the past and that even today, and also about a quarter of the world population is infected with the tubercle bacillus. Therefore, the BCG vaccine is the only TB vaccine for children, and the BCG vaccine is the only TB vaccine for children, and the development of a new TB vaccine that we are currently working on.

Despite the inclement weather, this public lecture was attended by 33 people and provided a meaningful opportunity for a fulfilling learning experience. We will make a plan to hold another public lecture next year.
