Research Theme
- Prof. Krammer’s research focuses on understanding the interactions between antibodies and surface glycoproteins of antigenically variable RNA viruses. The goal of his laboratory is it, to translate these findings into vaccines and therapeutics.
Keyword
- Influenza viruses
- Hantaviruses
- Arenaviruses
- Coronaviruses
- Emerging pathogens
Overview of Research
- Isolation and characterization of emerging pathogens
- Development of monoclonal antibodies to glycoproteins of emerging pathogens and characterization of the interactions with their target antigens and their antiviral mechanisms of action
- Development of vaccines that target conserved but immuno-subdominant epitopes which viruses cannot easily change.
- Development of vaccines that induce mucosal immunity and protect from infection (not just disease) and limit virus spread in the community.
