Dr. Koshiro Tabata and Dr. Shinji Saito at IVReD participated in a research group consisting of Shogo Kanoh (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology [AIST]), Katsuya Kato (Chubu Center, AIST), Atsushi Hirano (AIST), and Professor Kentaro Shiraki (University of Tsukuba).
This group has developed a novel technique for purifying immunoglobulin A (IgA) in a cost-effective and simple manner.
Point
-
Developed a purification method for IgA using inexpensive zirconia particles.
-
IgA can be purified simply by adjusting the pH and salt concentration of the solution.
-
This technology is expected to accelerate the development of IgA-based pharmaceuticals, which hold promise for infection prevention and pandemic preparedness.
This new technology is anticipated to facilitate the research and practical application of IgA therapeutics, thereby contributing to the prevention of infectious diseases and preparedness for future pandemics.
